One of the things we like about our kindergarten is that our son gets to experience all kinds of activities. This year there has been soccer, potato digging, art exhibition visit, a visit to the rescue and emergency center. And just before the winter holidays he got to go ice skating for the first time. He was so exited and was practicing the penguin walk at home as a preparation for his first steps on ice. The time slot at the ice skating rink was only an hour, and it became a kind of crash course where the children started by putting on the skates and walking outside the rink, before they ventured out on the ice, supported by plastic beer crates.

As the children got braver and more used to standing on the ice, they left the crates behind and penguin walked across the ice. Sure, there was a few tumbles but I was impressed with how the kids managed to handle the ice so well. And when the hour was over, our son was all smiles and professed he wanted to go skating again. Sooner rather than later.
