japanese garden delights

There have been so many things happening this autumn and I would have had to write a couple of posts per week to cover what I would like to share. But since I am on a one post per week pace, my autumn stories will focus on the highlights, albeit sometimes presented a bit late. But since autumn has been quite late as well, maybe that is not such a bad thing after all.

My wife had seen an advertisement for a light or projection show at a Japanese garden in Fukuoka that we love to visit sometimes – Yusentei. There is a Japanese tea house situated on top of a pond surrounded by a Japanese style garden where we have had tea a few times but never before visited after dark. It seemed exciting to see what this was all about, and so one evening after dinner we went to see what the light spectacle looked like in real life.

Not having any real expectations or preconceptions, I managed to be completely blown away by the show. There was suggestive music playing, what looked like bubbles of smoke dancing over the water, and the greenery beyond the pond became a backdrop to the projection of Japanese imagery of the four seasons passing by. The show was on a loop and even though it started to get cold we could not take our eyes off the display and ended up looking through it four times.

These are the kind of magical moments that I love so much about life here. And I feel certain visiting Yusentei will become a yearly autumn tradition for us.
