everyday beauty

Tonight my son fell asleep lying on my chest; I cannot imagine anything more beautiful. His whole existence is beautiful – the pure innocence of a child. The trust he puts in us without even thinking about it – I was lying in bed thinking of what I possibly could have done to deserve it, to deserve being a father to such a brightly shining being of life.

When we are outside, going to the playground, watering the moss in our garden or just taking out the trash, my son always finds small things to wonder at, and he makes me see and wonder as well. A withered leaf is his treasure, the colorful flowers growing in the middle of what remains of last years grass is his color palette, a little bug crawling in the grass is his best friend, not to mention the stormwater wells on top of which my son likes to huddle and just watch and listen to the water.

Next to one of these stormwater wells I found a treasure of my own; a small piece of natural street art that blew me away by its perfection – no hand could have created such an installation. The colors, the composition, the texture; maybe I am just being more than a little affected by my son’s sense of wonder but however it may be I am so grateful for the chances he gives me to explore the tiny everyday things in life. I guess we to a passer-by make an odd couple sometimes – a baby lying on the street looking at water, his father taking photos of flowers in the nearby gutter – but I could not be more happy with being an odd soul walking the streets of our little town; thank you my beautiful son.
