dinosaur cake

This has been a year of dinosaurs – it started with the trip home from Sweden together with a big toy dinosaur. After that we have been to the dinosaur museum, we have created a home made dinosaur card game, the birthday wish was for a toy dinosaur, and every night for four months now I am telling my son a never ending dinosaur story before sleep. I cannot quite remember how it started, but I think it was around his birthday when he got two spinosaurus and he wanted me to tell a story about them and their T-rex friend. So I started taking about their life in the forest, what they were doing during the days, what they were playing. After my wife went to Tokyo on a business trip and came back with an ankylosaurus plastic toy, the ankylosaurus became part of the story and they went to explore the desert, the ocean, the mountains together.

My son is so looking forward to the dino-story before sleep, so even though it does not come easy to tell a new chapter of the story every night, I make an effort to satisfy his wish for exciting storytelling. As such the dino-gang have met more friends, such as panda-saurus, kossa-saurus (kossa is cow in Swedish), kanin-osaurus (kanin is rabbit), they have visited islands where mango-saurus and apple-osaurus live, they have gone skiing (or rather sliding on big leaves) down a big mountain almost getting caught in an avalanche. Last night they were playing hide and seek in the forest together with their new friend monkey-saurus.

This weekend when we were making Japanese pancakes my son took his dinosaur interest to the next level – he decided to make a dinosaur pancake. I was very impressed by it, we agreed that it was a T-rex, and my son thought it was the tastiest pancake he had every eaten. But next time he said, he will make a motorcycle pancake instead. It remains to be seen if the change in focus is only for the pancakes, or if our dino-friends are reaching the end of their long long story soon as well.
