back to the beach

It has only been a few weeks since we went to play at the beach. This time the weather was perfect, like a beautiful Swedish summer’s evening. The sand was cool and the water inviting for a barefoot stroll at the edge of the calm sea. Evenings like this always bring a sense of rest from the everyday busy world, especially so when I explore the scenery with a camera in my hand. While my wife was enjoying the sunset watching our son looking for shellfish in the tide puddles, I went for a walk away from the beach, venturing onto the boulders and stones that form the sea line towards the west.

I was all alone except for crabs and big woodlice-like creatures that avoided me, scurrying into hiding as I jumped from one stone to the next. In some tide puddles I saw fish, in others I saw the setting sun reflecting. I took my time, enjoying the stillness, taking photos, waving at my wife standing on the beach far away. When I eventually made my way back, my son was still searching for crabs and shellfish. He had found a friend his age and they were playing together, using the friends net to try to catch the sea creatures they saw. When it was time to go home, both boys did not want to leave and ended up dancing in the shallow water.

Now that summer is upon us, coming to our favorite beach will be a frequent occurrence I believe. And maybe next time there will be a chance to go for a proper swim as well.
