What do you want to do today, we asked our son last Sunday. It is summer holiday and we thought we were going to do something special, a little family excursion to our son’s liking. He did not hesitate – I want to go to Fukuoka tower, he said. Fukuoka Tower is located by the sea and was built for the “Yokatopia” Asia Pacific Exposition in 1989. It is 234 meters high with observation decks as high up as 123 meters, offering panoramic views over Fukuoka. We went there last summer and ever since, our son has wanted to go back, always asking where Fukuoka Tower is when we are doing outings to the sea or the mountains.
Being a tourist attraction, of course there is a photographer working there to take and sell photos to the visitors. My wife and I did not need to care about that since we had our own photographer – our son was more than happy to take photos of us and I am quite impressed by how many good photos of us that he produced. It is a happy thing to have a son who shares my love for taking photos.
Our son’s other request for the day was to go to the beach, so we spent the late afternoon swimming in the sea and went home while watching a gorgeous sunset. On the way back our son insisted that since it is getting dark, we need to go back to Fukuoka Tower. He really wanted to see the lights of Fukuoka from way up high, so we simply had to go back. Another time, we promised, another time. So now I guess Fukuoka Tower at night will be high on his list of wants the next time we ask him what he wants to do today.
