on to autumn

What a summer it has been. Hot. Humid. And lots of experiences. Apart from what I have being writing about during the summer, we have been to a firework festival, visited a waterfall where my son got to try his hand on fishing for the first time (fishing for fish but also fishing for noodles that mommy sent flowing down a bamboo pipe, a very popular summer activity). We have been to a local summer event with fun activities for children, we have visited the Fukuoka Art museum where they had a special exhibition featuring Tove Jansson and the Moomins. In other news, our son lost not one but two teeth, the first two, which was quite a big occasion for him, and he got to try his hand on weaving when we visited a workshop making Hakata ori, a traditional Japanese textile from Fukuoka.

What gave me the most pleasure this summer however, was seeing our son initiating and enjoying several creative projects of his own. One day he secretly took my phone and when I found it he had taken a lot of arty photos exploring the geometry of our house. One evening he decided he was going to make desert for his mom and dad, and with a little help from me he made us all an ice cream surprise. And for his masterpiece this summer – a wearable helmet inspired by the Mandalorian. Of course we could not end this summer without a Star Wars reference. Now all that is left to say is welcome autumn.
